EASTERN FARM’S EXTRAORDINARY COLT

Springtime is a superb time to pay a visit to Eastern Farms, the biggest animal sanctuary in New Zealand. The beautiful singing birds and the sounds of the farm animals create nature's music that stirs the soul. It's a relaxing place to get away from noisy city life. Eastern Farms is a wonderful heavenly place, where tourists flock to see its sights. Lots of fun activities await them like horseback rides, sheep shearing, and beautiful lakes full of lotus flowers. Every weekend it is full of excited visitors. All this makes Eastern Farms the perfect place to raise all the best breeds of farm creatures.

Today was a typical busy one at Eastern Farms. Dr. Julie, the Veterinary Intern was feeling sad because her favourite colt, Sunny was to be sold. sunnyThe owners had decided that Sunny was a liability as he was never picked for a ride. Poor Sunny was seemingly cursed as being an ugly pony, and so he lived quietly in the back pasture and wasn't part of the farm's chaotic routine.

Julie went to see Sunny every day and talked to him about her day. She was sure Sunny understood every word. “It seems as if we have always been friends,” thought Julie to herself. Sunny was actually the only friend she had and she was heartbroken about the idea of Sunny no longer being at the farm.

Julie saw Tyrone Jones the Farm's Supervisor on his normal rounds, looking over the Farm. She ran to see him, hurrying to be able to match his speed, “Mr Jones," she said. Sunny is the fittest of all the farm's ponies. Please don't sell him." She looked pleadingly at him and silently prayed Jones would do as she asked. “Yes Julie, I know that, but our ponies are here to be ridden by our guests and no one ever picks Sunny, and you are well aware of the reason why." He stopped short of calling Sunny ugly, since he knew Julie loved him. He recalled the night of Sunny's birth. It had been a terrible thunderstorm, with lots of lighting that flashed and lit up the barn where Sunny's mother was labouring to bring him into the world. The hard delivery sadly was the death of the mare, who perished shortly after her colt was born.....
